What is GYROTONIC® & GYROKINESIS®?

The GYROTONIC® and GYROKINESIS® Methods are complementary exercise systems created by Juliu Horvath, designed to awaken and elevate the body’s fullest movement potential. Together, they form the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM®—a methodology that cultivates fluid, intelligent body mechanics with a focus on sustainable strength, integrated flexibility, range-of-motion, and coordination.

The GYROTONIC® Method is a unique approach to physical fitness cross-training that uses specialized equipment to guide and provide physical, weighted feedback to the body through exercises that strengthen the core, enhance joint mobility and stability, lengthen the spine, and promote healthy, functional alignment.

The GYROKINESIS® Method is a mat-based, guided class, often done in a group format that requires no equipment, sharing principles and movement vocabulary with the Gyrotonic Method.

Emphasizing the spine as the body’s central axis Gyrotonic and Gyrokinesis both use three-dimensional, spiraling, rhythmic, breath-connected, wave-like exercises to build flexibility, relieve tension, support nervous system regulation, and develop deeply integrated, full-body strength.

Drawing on elements from dance, yoga, gymnastics, swimming, Tai Chi, and Qi Gong, both of these practices invite participants to move with a greater sense of physical freedom, ease and openness.

This work is suitable for all levels—from those recovering from injury to athletes and dancers in peak-performance training, the Gyrotonic Expansion System offers a balanced, dynamic, full-body workout that is low-impact yet uniquely challenging, stimulating, and enjoyable.

BREATH-IS-A-WAVE ::

BREATH-IS-A-WAVE is a somatic movement class that invites you to explore the innate intelligence of the moving, breathing, fluid body. Through gentle, non-linear movement, breath, and vocal sounding, we slow down and listen beneath the surface currents of the world—awakening the body’s capacity to unwind, recalibrate, and restore. Rooted in deep listening and creative inquiry, this practice cultivates interoceptive awareness and attunement to the body’s primordial wisdom and the vast nourishment within.
